OCCUPY ART AND THE DIGITAL GAME SPACE

We witness a "minority counterattack" that challenges dominant narratives, using countergaming to address socio-political and environmental issues, escape the influence of screen images on global imaginaries, breaking free from capitalist logic, and decolonizing dreams. We discuss the intersection between games and environmental issues, highlighting the link between conflict, minerals, e-waste and games. We show that games can raise awareness of environmental concerns and influence players' choices. We advocate educational activism to encourage the creation and distribution of environmentally-friendly games, challenging aesthetics, and leveraging games to positively change behavior.
