Sílvia Pinto Coelho

Researcher, choreographer and multidisciplinary artist, specialised in dance and choreographic thinking, she is a guest assistant professor at Lusófona University – in the Actor Training degree programme – and a researcher at ICNOVA-FCSH, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

She holds a PhD and a master's degree in Communication Sciences, a degree in Anthropology and a bachelor's degree in Dance. She teaches practical and theoretical seminars related to the performing arts as artistic research, and performance studies.

As a choreographer and dancer, she has studied various styles and techniques of dance, composition and improvisation. Since 1996, she has presented her own choreographic pieces and participated in research, teaching and film projects with collaborators from various fields.

Her research focuses on ‘Attention’ and ‘Choreographic Thinking’, themes she explores in a transdisciplinary manner.

At ICNOVA, she is part of the Performance and Cognition group, was part of the editorial board of the online magazine INTERACT (2019-2024) and led the artistic research project Procrastination School [https://procrastinationschool.fcsh.unl.pt/].

She participates in informal groups for the discussion of art, thought and activism, such as: baldio–estudos de performance, AND_Lab, SenseLab, Transpensar and Es.Col.Az.
